People evacuated from town threatened by damaged dam make ‘controlled’ visits to pick up pets and other essentials

RAF pilots and emergency workers were continuing their round-the-clock efforts to shore up a stricken dam before the area is besieged by threatened thunderstorms.

A Chinook helicopter made scores of forays over the Toddbrook reservoir at Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, to drop bags of ballast into a section damaged by recent heavy downpours.
