Ivan Rakitic has turned down the chance to move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to a report in England.
The Daily Star, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Croatia international isn’t interested in a potential move to Manchester United.
The same article states that the 20-time English champions had expressed an interest in signing the World Cup finalist to improve their midfield ahead of the new season.
According to the same story, the 31-year-old doesn’t want to miss out on a year of Champions League football after Manchester United failed to qualify for the premier Uefa competition.
The report goes on to say Rakitic’s snub comes in spite of the fact that FC Barcelona are eager to offload the Croatian playmaker to fund moves for Ajax starlet Matthijs de Ligt and Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term behind Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
The Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League and the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage to finish the season without a trophy for the second successive campaign.
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League since 2013 despite going through three different managers.
