Liverpool FC have expressed an interested in signing Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, according to transfer insider Duncan Castles.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs since the conclusion of the Ligue 1 season after his impressive performances for Lille.
Arsenal and Manchester United were both reported to be interested in a potential summer deal to sign the Ivory Coast international last month.
Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t expected to spend big in the summer following their Champions League success and second-placed finish in the Premier League.
But the German head coach will surely be open to one or two quality signings if the right player becomes available to improve his current crop.
Now, Daily Record reporter Castles has claimed that the six-time European champions have contacted Lille about their impressive Ivorian winger Pepe.
“From what I’ve been told, Liverpool have been in contact with Pepe’s agent to discuss a deal, his interest in coming and what is would cost to come. Lille are aware of this and are waiting for a bid,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
Pepe scored 22 goals in 38 games in Ligue 1 last season to secure attention from a host of Premier League clubs.
The African star has been prolific since his move to Lille from Angers at the start of the 2017-18 Ligue 1 season.
Pepe has netted 35 times in 74 games in the French top flight.
Liverpool FC won the Champions League for a sixth time last weekend following a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid last weekend.
