Junior health minister replaces Dominic Raab, as Amber Rudd takes work and pensions role

Theresa May has appointed the little-known junior minister Stephen Barclay as Brexit secretary, and brought back Amber Rudd as work and pensions secretary, as she scrambled to shore up her position following a series of resignations over her Brexit deal.

A day after Dominic Raab and Esther McVey stepped down, saying they could not support May’s Brexit strategy, the prime minister moved fast to reassert her authority, and also take closer control over negotiations with Brussels.
