Graeme Souness has warned Jurgen Klopp that the 2018-19 Premier League season represents Liverpool FC’s best chance to win the title since 1990.
The Reds are in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with defending champions Manchester City after seven fixtures.
Liverpool FC showed character and resilience at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening after the Merseyside came from behind to rescue a point at Chelsea FC.
Eden Hazard broke the deadlock in the first half before substitute Daniel Sturridge netted a sensational equaliser with three minutes left to play in west London.
The Reds passed their other significant test in the current campaign following Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last month.
Liverpool FC have finished in fourth place in the last two Premier League seasons to find consistency under Jurgen Klopp.
However, the two-time Bundesliga winner has been unable to polish his Liverpool FC side into title contenders for the long haul during his reign so far.
But former Liverpool FC captain Souness is convinced that Klopp’s side have the balance and quality to challenge Manchester City in the title race this season.
“This isn’t just the best chance for Liverpool to win the title since the Premier League starter, I’d go further than that – I say this is the best chance they’ve had since Kenny’s team last won it,” Souness told Paddy Power. “They’ve got a really healthy group of players.
“It’s only a matter of time before they win something. If you’re going to win the Premier League this year, you’re going to have to finish above Liverpool.
“I think this Liverpool team would give any team from any era a real game.”
Liverpool FC signed Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Naby Keita to add more depth to Klopp’s squad.
