CORONATION Street fans couldn’t believe their eyes as Peter Barlow was gunned down in a drive-by shooting – and they were even more surprised when it turned out to be fake.

Tonight’s episode featured a drive-by shooting that left viewers horrified, but it soon turned out that Peter was only hit with a paint gun.

The new co-owner of the factor appeared to take a bullet to the chest in horror scenes during the hour-long special.

Evil bully Tyler was seen leaning out of a car with a fire arm and gunning down Peter in an attempt to stop Simon testifying in court.

Peter was seen clutching his chest and slumping to the pavement as Corrie fans flocked to Twitter to express their horror.

One wrote: “Oh my god gun crime on tonight’s #Corrie wtf just happened?!”

One more commented: “OMG I did not see that coming #Corrie.”

Corrie fans were left with a cliff-hanger as the show took a half hour break before revealing Peter’s fate.

However, it was revealed that he was actually fine as he was only hit with a paint pellet – and many fans felt let down by the fake shooting.

Many scolded Corrie bosses for keeping them in suspense and then pulling the rug out from under them.

One tweeted: “WHAT A CLIFFHANGER #Corrie.”

Another wrote: “Bloody paint gun, I was worried for nothing #Corrie.”
