Cesc Fabregas has warned Chelsea FC that they may struggle to keep hold of Eden Hazard next summer if the playmaker doesn’t sign a new contract with the west London club.

Hazard has made a superb start to the new season and has been earning lots of praise for his solid displays for Maurizio Sarri’s men so far this term.

The 27-year-old came off the bench to score a superb solo goal to book Chelsea FC’s place in the fourth round of the League Cup thanks to their 2-1 win at Liverpool FC on Wednesday night.

Hazard has scored six goals and made two assists in all competitions for Sarri’s men so far this season and he has been hitting top form for the Blues under his new manager.

The playmaker’s future was a source of speculation in the summer transfer window but he ended up staying at the club beyond the start of the season.

Hazard’s current Chelsea FC contract is due to expire in the summer of 2020, and that means that he will only have one year left on his contract by next summer.

And Fabregas has admitted that it may be harder for Chelsea FC to keep hold of the playmaker beyond next summer.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Fabregas said: “It was an easy decision [for Chelsea FC to keep Hazard this summer], especially now, because at this stage how much can Eden cost?

“Not many teams in the world can buy Eden Hazard. He still had two years left on his contract.

“Next year if he has one year left, that’s a different story. You don’t have as much power as a club. Eden is one of the best players in the world.

“But having two years left, especially how the market is, it’s basically impossible to sign him up. I don’t think it was that hard from the club.”

Chelsea FC host Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
