Andy Townsend has admitted that he would rather Eden Hazard than Neymar in the Chelsea FC team.
The Brazil international became the world’s most expensive player in a £198m deal from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 summer transfer window.
Neymar won the Ligue 1 title during his first season at the Parc des Princes but the South American forward failed to set the world alight.
Hazard was one of the best players at the World Cup after the Chelsea FC number 10 helped Belgium to finish in third place.
The Belgian star has returned from the major tournament in fine form following five goals in six games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
Hazard scored a brilliant winner in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win over Liverpool FC in the League Cup third round on Wednesday night.
Asked whether he would rather Hazard or Neymar in the Blues team, former Chelsea FC defender Townsend told BBC Radio 5 Live:
“I would. Not disputing Neymar’s talents and qualities.
“In the Premier League you need strength and desire. You need to be able to withstand challenges. Hazard can do it.”
The Blues forward won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his spell at the west London side.
Hazard has never won the Champions League during spells at both Lille and Chelsea FC.
