INTER MILAN have reportedly made a ‘formal approach’ for Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez – and could sign him for free.
According to the Mail, the Serie A club are keen to secure a permanent switch this summer.
United may also be keen to simply cut their losses and sell the Chilean in order to save £505,000 on the wage bill every week.
That is because a loan deal away from Old Trafford would likely mean United still pay his wages.
Reporter Adam Crafton tweeted: “Inter Milan have made a formal approach to Alexis Sanchez.
“They and he are exploring ways to secure his preferred option of permanent transfer by start of July.
“Would need United to waive a fee and he to take a wage cut, both of which are increasingly possible.
“If United loan Sanchez, they will need to fork out each year for his wages, potentially over £10m.
“There is some financial sense therefore in cutting losses for a low fee as they seek to cleanse dressing room and start over.”
The reports come on the same day of suggestions that Juventus have also held talks over a potential move.
Sanchez’s agent Fernando Felicevich is understood to be in Italy to try and secure a move back to Serie A for his client.
The forward made his name in Europe during his successful spell at Udinese which earned him a move to Barcelona in 2011.

He moved to Arsenal in 2014 and then to Manchester United in January of last year but has struggled to hit the form his astronomical wages warrant.
This season Sanchez scored just one Premier League goal this season and the Old Trafford club are desperate to ship him out – preferably on a permanent basis – in order to bring in younger, hungrier talents, such as Dan James and Nicolas Pepe.
But as revealed by SunSport tonight, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his eye on a £40million move for Lyon forward Moussa Dembele.
