Maurizio Sarri has underlined the importance of Willian remaining at Chelsea FC beyond the January transfer window.
The Brazil international scored a second-half winner in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Willian netted in the 57th minute to secure three points for the home side and keep the west London side on course for a top-four finish.
The Chelsea FC midfielder has scored three goals and has made three assists in 21 games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
However, Willian has been linked with a potential move in the January transfer window amid reported interest from FC Barcelona and Chinese club Dalian Yifang.
Asked about the importance of Willian during his post-match media conference at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, the Blues manager said:
“Willian, for us, is a very important player.
“As I said yesterday in the press conference, in my opinion he has to stay with us.
“He’s very important player, like Pedro. Hudson-Odoi is becoming a very important player so with Eden like a striker today, we need wingers, so we need Pedro, Hudson-Odoi and Willian, of course.
“At this moment he’s a fundamental player.”
Chelsea FC signed Willian in a big-money deal from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in the 2012 summer transfer window.
Willian has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Europa League since his move to Chelsea FC.
The South American forward has scored 49 goals in 268 games in all competitions since his move to Chelsea FC.
Sarri’s side are in fourth place in the Premier League table and on course to finish in the top four in their first campaign under the Italian manager.
