Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Chelsea FC will ease to a 2-0 win against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The Blues have the chance to establish some daylight between themselves and their top-four rivals, who aren’t in action in the Premier League this weekend.
Neither Manchester United nor Tottenham Hotspur will be in top-flight action, giving Chelsea FC the chance to open up a small gap.
Maurizio Sarri’s side are in fifth place in the Premier League table but level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal.
Tottenham are a point ahead of Chelsea FC, while Manchester United trail the Stamford Bridge outfit by two points.
If Sarri’s men can beat West Ham on Monday night, the Blues will re-enter the top four with five games left to play in their season.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is confident that Chelsea FC will secure a comfortable win against West Ham.
“People might question Pellegrini’s ability to motivate his players, but it can’t be that. He will say the same things every week to get them going, and one week it works and the next week it doesn’t.,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I just don’t get it – but it makes it very hard to predict the Hammers’ results, whoever they are playing.
“Chelsea have also been inconsistent this season, although not on the same level.
“They come into this game on the back of two successive wins and, after being fortunate to beat Cardiff at the weekend, they were far more convincing against Brighton on Wednesday.”
Chelsea FC have eased past Cardiff City and Brighton in their last two Premier League outings.
Their 3-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday night was notable for Callum Hudson-Odoi’s full debut in the Premier League.
The 18-year-old made an assist for Olivier Giroud to break the deadlock at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea FC will be looking to secure a third successive Premier League win with a victory over West Ham.
