Jurgen Klopp praised Fabinho for an “outstanding” performance in Liverpool FC’s thrilling 1-0 win over Everton in Sunday’s Merseyside derby.
The Brazilian midfielder has been getting used to life at Anfield after having signed for the Reds from Monaco in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been gradually eased into the first team by Klopp at Anfield but he started Sunday’s game and played the full 90 minutes of the derby.
Liverpool FC ended up claiming all three points when Divock Origi netted the winner with virtually the last kick of the game in the 96th minute.
And Klopp chose to single out Fabinho for his strong performance in midfield for the Reds in his post-match news conference.
Asked about Fabinho’s display, Klopp told his post-match news conference on Sunday: “It was quite intense for them both in the centre [of midfield] there with all these offensive boys around them, but they all did a really good job and Fabinho did a few outstanding one-on-one situations, which he was completely clear in.
“At the end it was a little bit less clear, but that’s normal. Yes, a really good game.”
Klopp continued: “Our high-pressing was outstanding, our counter-press was really at the highest level, football-wise in a lot of moments it was really good.
“We tried to control the game, which is difficult because they closed the spaces really well.
“As always, we could have done a few moments better, but we had our moments.”
Liverpool FC’s win could end up proving to be a vital one in the Premier League title race.
The Reds’ victory left them in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after 14 games.
They will look to continue their title push when they take on Burnley away from home on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
