Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: Where Frank Lampard needs to improve Chelsea FC

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Frank Lampard has a lot of work to do with the Chelsea FC squad.

The new Blues manager took charge of his first game on Wednesday night as Chelsea FC played out a 1-1 draw with Irish club Bohemians.

The west London side were denied a first win under Lampard after Michy Batshuayi’s eighth-minute goal was cancelled out by Eric Molloy’s late equaliser.

Chelsea FC are in a period of transition after their prized asset Eden Hazard completed a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid earlier this summer.

The Blues have added Borussia Dortmund playmaker Christian Pulisic and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic to their squad after having agreed those deals before their transfer ban.

Former Chelsea FC striker Hasselbaink outlined where Lampard’s side need to improve after their 1-1 draw in the Republic of Ireland mid-week.

“They lost the ball way too easy,” Hasselbaink told Chelsea FC’s website, as quoted by football.london.

“Players were having too many touches, sometimes seven, eight touches and it slows the game down.

“It will be a lesson for Frank to see players and in a way it will make his mind up.

“[Moving the ball fast] is his idea of how he wants to play the game.

“The majority of successful teams do move the ball quickly.”

Maurizio Sarri led Chelsea FC to a third-placed finish in his only season in the charge of the west London outfit after he replaced Antonio Conte in 2018.

The Blues won the Europa League crown in May thanks to a 4-1 victory over derby rivals Arsenal in the showpiece in Baku.

The west London side haven’t won the Premier League title since 2017, when Conte was in charge of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
