Jamie Carragher has admitted that he has been impressed by Fabinho’s improving performances for Liverpool FC after he helped the Reds to claim a 3-1 win over Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Brazilian midfielder has been settling into life at Anfield after having signed for the Reds from Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Fabinho was made to wait for his first appearances in the Premier League but he started Sunday’s crucial tie at Anfield.
The 25-year-old provided Sadio Mane with a wonderful lofted pass for the Senegal international, who expertly controlled the ball and fired past David De Gea in the 24th minute.
It was Fabinho’s first assist in the Premier League this season.
However, Manchester United levelled in the 33rd minute when Alisson Becker spilled a ball out to Jesse Lingard, who lifted his finish over the Brazilian shot-stopper.
Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench in the 70th minute for Naby Keita and had an instant impact, as his deflected effort beat De Gea in the 73rd minute.
And summer signing Shaqiri added another with a curling effort in the 81st minute.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Carragher said of Fabinho: “He’s growing in a Liverpool shirt, no doubt.
“He had a tough time away at Arsenal in the first half. But he’s excelled when playing [recently].
“It’s not just being disruptive in there – he’s passing and sustaining attacks. He was very good in the opening 25 minutes [against United].”
Liverpool FC’s win lifted them up back to the top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of second-placed Manchester City heading into the hectic festive period.
