Chelsea FC are set to rekindle their long-standing interest in Bayer Leverkusen forward Leon Bailey, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Chelsea FC are prepared to invest some of the funds raised by Eden Hazard’s sale to Real Madrid into bringing the Jamaica international to Stamford Bridge.
The same article states that Bayer Leverkusen are looking to secure an £80m transfer fee for Bailey, which would make the 21-year-old the west London side’s most expensive signing of all time.
According to the same story, Chelsea FC are in the market to sign a versatile winger to fill Hazard’s void and Bailey fits the bill.
The story goes on to say that the Premier League side have been monitoring Bailey since before his move to Bayer Leverkusen from Genk.
Bailey has scored 14 times in 66 games in Bundesliga over the past three seasons following his €20m move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2016.
Chelsea FC finished the Premier League season in third place ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Italian head coach Maurizio Sarri led the west London side to glory in the Europa League final thanks to a 4-1 victory over bitter rivals Arsenal in the showpiece.
Hazard’s impending move to Real Madrid from Chelsea FC was announced by both clubs last week.
