BBC Sport pundit claims Liverpool FC signing is looking ‘comfortable’

Adrian is starting to look “comfortable” in the Liverpool FC goal for the first time since his move to Anfield, according to BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.

The Reds signed Adrian in a free transfer in the summer after their Premier League rivals West Ham United opted to release the Spanish goalkeeper.

Adrian was signed to provide cover for Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker after Simon Mignolet completed a move to Club Brugge last month.

However, the 32-year-old was ushered into the Liverpool FC team in their season opener when Alisson was substituted before half-time with a calf problem.

Adrian made mistakes against Chelsea FC in the Uefa Super Cup and against Southampton in the Premier League to raise questions about his ability to deputise for Alisson.

However, the former Hammers shot-stopper kept his first clean sheet as a Liverpool FC player in their 3-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend.

In fact, Adrian made a key save to deny Chris Wood in the early stages of the game to give Liverpool FC the springboard to go on and claim three points.

BBC Sport pundit Crooks believes Adrian has turned a corner at Liverpool FC after a less than convincing start.

“I think it’s perfectly acceptable for a goalkeeper to rely on his defensive unit just as much as his defenders can rely on him,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“The relationship between the Liverpool back four and stand-in keeper Adrian has had its good and bad moments.”

Crooks added: “Adrian’s performance against Burnley, however, was about as good as it gets. The Spanish keeper made a superb save from Chris Wood at a critical time in the first half, while his defensive unit made sure Adrian was not required to come to their rescue thereafter.

“For the first time since Adrian took over from the injured Alisson Liverpool looked comfortable with their goalkeeper. The future is beginning to look Red.”

Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and two points ahead of Manchester City.
