Prince Charles praised England, saying they’ve done the nation proud, but reminded them there’s more to come.

His message read: “I just wanted to send you all my warmest congratulations on such a magnificent triumph in the Cricket World Cup.

“You have done us all proud, and it’s The Ashes next!”

Ben Stokes – who joked on Wednesday he had only just sobered up from the celebrations – was the hero in the final, starring with the bat in both the normal 50 overs and the Super Over.

Jofra Archer – who is an injury worry for the Ashes, alongside Mark Wood – then held his nerve with the ball as England won their first ever 50-over World Cup.

And the national heroes enjoyed a day at 10 Downing Street, meeting avid cricket fan Theresa May, in a glitzy bash.

The beaming stars were pictured outside No10 with May as they posed with the trophy.

They then headed out to the garden for a champagne reception to celebrate their glorious World Cup victory yesterday.

The Prime Minister, who was in the crowd on Sunday, was thrilled after their “brilliant performance”.

May said: “They showed flair, courage and absolute determination to become world champions.

“The achievement delivered in such a thrilling style on home soil will live forever in our sporting history.

“It’s also exciting to think how many children will be inspired by this victory to pick up a bat for the first time for the first time.”

England will now turn their attention to Australia once more, as they prepare to kick-off the five-match Test series, The Ashes, starting on August 1.
