DEATH TOLL continues to climb in the UK as the total figure reached 31,241 for coronavirus fatalities.

It means another 626 people have perished in and outside of hospitals.

This comes as Boris Johnson prepares to outline his “roadmap” for the coronavirus lockdown on Sunday, with potential changes coming into force next week.

The Prime Minister hopes to bring in small changes such as relaxing limits on exercise and picnics before analysing what impact it has.

One Government source said: “It means we could lift restrictions once a fortnight rather than reviewing the lockdown every three weeks, as is currently the case.”

Among the new policies expected is that businesses will be asked to provide face masks for their employees for use at work, on public transport and while shopping.

Mr Johnson is also set to reveal that any holiday arrivals or travellers entering the country will have to self-isolate for two weeks.

The current restrictions were extended once again on Thursday, but in Friday’s daily press briefing, Environment Secretary George Eustice suggested the chain’s takeaways could operate safely during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This means McDonald’s could reopen its drive-thru restaurants.
