MORTGAGE payment holidays have been extended by another three months with homeowners given until October 31 to ask for a freeze.

The extension of the mortgage repayment freeze takes the total to six months so far, with the proposals announced by the treasury today.

It comes as scientist Sunetra Gupta has claimed that pubs and restaurants could reopen now without risking a second wave of the deadly coronavirus.

Wetherspoons has today unveiled plans for when its chain of pubs reopen when lockdown is eased, including reduced menus and extra measures for staff.

Meanwhile, the UK coronavirus death toll hit 36,042 yesterday after another 338 people died in 24 hours from the deadly bug.
