A JUNIOR minister has resigned after Boris Johnson’s top aide Dominic Cummings travelled 260 miles to Durham during lockdown.

Douglas Ross, the Under Secretary of State for Scotland, said this morning he is quitting after hearing Mr Cummings’ efforts to defend his trip.

It comes as scientists in Britain develop a new Covid-19 inhaler,which could help boost coronavirus patients’ immune system to fight the virus when early symptoms appear.

Researchers from the University of Southampton have sent 120 inhalers out to Covid-19 patients for a home trial beginning today.

Boris Johnson has also announced the UK will reopen thousands of high street shops, department stores and shopping centres on June 15.

Outdoor markets and car showrooms can reopen as soon as they are able to meet the coronavirus secure guidelines from June 1.

He made the announcement after it was confirmed the UK death toll rose to 36,914 with 121 more deaths.
