Paramedics administered trauma care to the boy before he was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in critical condition, a spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

It’s understood the young boy remains in hospital. The 63-year-old driver of the car remained at the scene and is helping cops with enquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or information to come forward, including anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “I would also ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances of the collision.

It does not help the family or ourselves as we work to establish the facts.”

Police told the Sun Online there have not yet been any arrests made.
