Arsenal have made a £27m bid for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, according to a report in France.
French media outlet RMC, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners have launched a big offer for the French teenager but are yet to agree terms with Lyon.
The same article states that Saliba has already reached an agreement with Arsenal over personal terms to put the Gunners in pole position to sign the teenager.
According to the same story, the north London side are prepared to send Saliba back to Saint-Etienne on loan for the 2019-20 Ligue 1 campaign as a sweetener in the deal.
The French media outlet claims that Arsenal and Saint-Etienne will hold more negotiations this week as they looks to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Arsenal are thought to be prepared to give Saliba a five-year contract at The Emirates, RMC Sport go on to add.
The Gunners are looking to improve their defensive options this season after Arsenal conceded 51 times in the Premier League last term.
Unai Emery’s side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table after Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur narrowly beat their London rivals to the final two Champions League qualification spots.
Arsenal have failed to finish in the top in the last three seasons.
