Arsenal are on the brink of completing a deal to sign highly-rated German goalkeeper Markus Schubert, according to a report in England.
The Independent is reporting that the Gunners are close to reaching an agreement with the 21-year-old to complete a free transfer to the north London side from Dynamo Dresden.
The same article states that the promising German shot-stopper is described as a “modern footballing goalkeeper” in the same ilk as Unai Emery’s current number one Bernd Leno.
According to the same story, Arsenal could send out Schubert on loan for his first season at the Gunners amid interest from a number of Championship clubs.
The Independent credit Arsenal’s former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat for identifying the Dynamo Dresden goalkeeper as a potential recruit.
Arsenal are thought to be in the market to sign a new goalkeeper after former Czech Republic international Petr Cech called time on his decorated career following a 4-1 loss to his ex-club Chelsea FC in the Europa League final in Baku last month.
Emery led Arsenal to the European showpiece in his first season in charge but the Spanish head coach was unable to steer the Gunners back into the Champions League after a three-season absence.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.
