Daniel Sturridge has proven to Jurgen Klopp that he still has plenty to offer Liverpool FC, Martin Keown has claimed.

The Reds manager opted to start Sturridge in his first Champions League game since the England striker moved to Anfield in a £12m deal from Chelsea FC in 2013.

Sturridge repaid his manager’s faith with the opening goal in Liverpool FC’s 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain to make a winning start to Group C.

The 29-year-old powered a header into the PSG net following Andy Robertson’s superb cross into the box in the 30th minute.

Sturridge spurned two further chances to extend Liverpool FC’s lead before Roberto Firmino came off the bench to secure three points at home.

The England international has been used as a substitute in the Premier League so far this season.

Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Sturridge has a future under Klopp.

“Daniel Sturridge showed he still has plenty to offer Jurgen Klopp but he spurned two glorious chances that would have put Liverpool out of sight,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

He added: “In the second half, his poor control saw him foul PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola when he could well have shot with his first touch.

“Minutes later, he should have buried another header. He should have ended the night with a hat-trick.”

Sturridge moved to West Brom on loan for the second half of the 2017-18 season but the England striker suffered an immediate injury.

The Reds striker scored 21 goals in 28 games in the Premier League in the 2013-14 campaign under Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last term to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
