We have an update on Jimmy Butler’s football dreams.
First, for background: Last summer, Butler made it known that he loves the game of football, and he even called out NFL players. The three-time NBA All-Star told ESPN:
“I really love the game of football. I think I’m really good at it. I could probably take Demaryius Thomas’ spot (and) Antonio Brown’s spot. I told them they’re lucky I’m playing in the Olympics or I’d be getting a franchise tag with one of their organizations.”
Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas responded with an Instagram post that said, “Stick to bball please bro.”
I asked Butler about him bragging about his football skills on social media in an interview in March and he told me, “That’s just me being me,” while adding, “My love for football is right up there with my love for basketball, except I’m probably better at one sport over the other.”
That brings us to Saturday and this video Butler shared of himself going up against Thomas. Butler gets beat, and in the caption, he wrote, “bad day for me in front yard football with @demaryiust88 .. i can see my football dreams slipping away.”

Sad to hear.
However, at least Butler may be the best football player on the Team USA men’s basketball team. In that same interview I mentioned above, Butler told For The Win:
“It was so much fun for me to embarrass DeMarcus Cousins in football, as well (in Rio over the summer). You should’ve asked him that. Because I ran a route, made him fall, scored on him — real Antonio Brown-esque.”
